Students will demonstrate ability to accurately comprehend ideas across a range of historical content. Taught in Japanese. (Credit/No Credit Available) (Prereq: JAPN 201 or equivalent)
Reflective Narrative: In this course it helped me fulfill MLO 1 and MLO 2. Not only it was taught in Japanese with complex vocabulary and kanji but the content of the course was filled with famous Japanese historical figures and stories. In this course we learned from 1,000 years ago to current things in time in Japanese history. In the span of those years we learned many Japanese history. In class we had to get a course packet in which the packet contains a vocabulary, main idea questions, and opinion questions. Also, in the course we had to get a Japanese history textbook in which we had to read before class and understand it. In class we had to read too. Each week there was Kanji quiz which we had to write in Kanji and read in Kanji that was mentioned in the Japanese history textbook. From the reading and homework which is main idea questions and opinion questions we also did a group discussion. For the group discussion a couple of Japanese exchange students was also involved as well. In class we had to speak out loud our own opinions and answers that was in our homework. This class is taught in Japanese and we had to answer questions, read, and talk to the teacher in Japanese. All of the things are in Japanese. There was a midterm exam and final exam. On the finals week of this class, we had to do an individual presentation in front of the class. If you click here you can see my final presentation. Also, on top of our final presentation we had to create our own script to read. If you click here you can see my script for the presentation. The presentation is any topic that we discussed in class and we had to do further research on it and explain it in Japanese.
Overall this class was a good class because from the reading out loud in class, the teacher helps us with Japanese pronunciation. Also, I feel that have to say our answers and stating our opinions in class is a good practice for us on not being shy and speaking out. The discussion in the class was good for us to gain knowledge and get a further understanding of the chapters. Most of all, saying and reading everything in Japanese was key for me because we had to us our knowledge and talk and write and read in Japanese.
