Reflective Narrative:
4.1 In pre-capstone class we started with an research on the topic of our interest, in relation to what we researched on the topic we had to present it in the second-half of the capstone class during the following semester. In the class we learned different types of researching for our own topic. We learned how to do literature review and we discussed our topic to our professors to which one is the best research that might be interesting for us to research. Also, we learned how to do a proper research method from the start to the end.
The class that I had my big first research assignment was in Japanese 311 class. Everyone in the class was given a task of researching our own prefecture and their social issue and find outside sources to put into our paper. You can read about my social issues paper if you click here.
4.2 In the pre-capstone class we had to create an survey questions in which we had to have an analysis of the results and present from the research that you have found. In classes, we had help from our classmates to give us an feedback to make our research more better. Also, in the pre-capstone class we learned how to navigate CSUMB's library database. We found websites such as using One Search in the library data base. The library database and other sites helped me find credible and reliable sources for our literature review.
4.3 The skills that I have learned from the pre-capstone class is being able to do an extensive research in our topic. The extensive research made me realize this type of research will help me in my future career in working and also it will help me maybe in graduate school when I had to research regarding to my major. In the point of the research, we all have to take capstone class. In class we also, learned how to create and learned how to research in both languages of English and Japanese. We learned how to create surveys and present our final capstone during the finals week at the capstone festival. If you click here you can see our survey questions on how we started.
4.3 Another class is the Major Capstone class, we started with finalizing our capstone topic, our research questions, our survey questions and other categories. In the class we learned many different types of things relating to our topic and using technology. Most of all the skills that I have learned from the senior capstone class is how to find a appropriate information for each of our research questions and finding a reliable source to put in to our capstone project. Some of the challenging things about it was that finding an information that we can trust. Some of the other things that I learned in the class is how to do citation. When it comes to citation, I learned how to use APA style bibliography and also using the citation in our power point to how we found our information from. In regarding to APA format we learned how to us Zotero to organize our bibliography and follow the correct APA format. In addition, I learned how to use google forum. If you click here you can see how we did our google forum with our survey questions. It was my first time using google forum and I thought it will be hard but it turns out I was able to use it properly. Another thing, I learned is how to use excel for our data that we got from the survey. I had prior experience in using excel but I forgot so it made me realize how excel is helpful when it comes to numbers and charts. If you click here you can see all of the respondents data results in excel spread sheet. In my opinion, one of the most important things that I learned from the class is how to use excel and how to use power point. I had experience using excel in high school but I didn't remember too well and also I learned how to use power point that I never knew before. In the future, these types of skills that I have learned helped me a lot and most of all, I would like to use it when I go to graduate school.
