Reflective Narrative:
1.1 MLO 1 mainly focuses on the point of three things which is interpersonal, interpretative and presentational. The classes that I have taken which is Japanese 300 and Japanese 302, these classes since its over 200 level course the level of Japanese is high. The two classes are taught in Japanese and also the students are needed to communicate in Japanese as well. The courses are needed to have knowledge of Japanese is Japanese 302. Japanese 302 is history of Japan class and we strengthen our Japanese vocabulary with historical terms. If you click here you can see my final presentation script for Japanese 302 in which it illustrates how high the level you need to know and how much I improved on my language skills. Also, with Japanese 300 we learned high level kanji to high level Japanese communication. Both of the courses helped me increase my Japanese vocabulary and also Japanese language skills. Another course that I have taken was my major capstone class. In the class, I took a test called the STAMP test. If you click here you can see the stamp test home page. The STAMP test is mainly focused on language proficiency and you can test your knowledge by the modes of communication which is reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In the capstone class I took the STAMP test and I was able to reach intermediate high level of Japanese proficiency or advanced level. By clicking here you can see my test results. In relation to language, I also took classes when I study abroad to Japan. In Japan I took intermediate Japanese and advanced level kanji and writing course. From the course I learned, to increase my knowledge of knowing how to read and write at a high level. I would wish to apply it in my further studies.
1.2 For the point 1.2 I took the course called Japanese 320s which is advanced Japanese service learning. In the class it mainly focuses on the point of the community. Within the community the education has an issue of social justice and inequity. With the point of inequity and social justice we had to present it in Japanese. Also, we did an community scan presentation too. Doing different types of presentations in Japanese, I have learned new things like vocabulary and reading kanji that I don't know. Mainly, doing presentations in Japanese helps me a lot. For the most part, in the service learning class we also had to do a site reflection and reading reflection. The reflections had helped me write Japanese at a high level that I never achieved before in my life. In addition, going to the service learning site really help me teach Japanese language and culture to the elementary school students. It helped me learn different things about communication in which I needed to control the students and also using my Japanese language skills to teach Japanese to elementary school students. In my point of view, going to the service learning site and taking the class really helped me learn in different aspects such as communication with the kids and teaching Japanese language to kids on what we had learned in service learning class. Another class that I took from the point 1.2 is my major capstone course. In the course I learned how to use academic language and learned more complex sentence structure. In the class we had to write our capstone paper and make a script. By clicking here you can see how I learned to use academic language from capstone paper. Also, by clicking here you can see my complex sentence structure from my script.
