JAPN 403: Pre-Capstone
Description: This course aims to develop an advanced level of academic communication through the formulation of research questions on linguistic and cultural topics, using appropriate research methods and critical thinking skills. Students utilize a variety of information sources to investigate, organize, and analyze the information. Taught in Japanese. (Credit/ No Credit Available) (Prereq: JAPN 300 or equivalent)
Reflective Narrative: JAPN 403 was a course that introduced the capstone project. Before starting on our capstone research we had a training process by learning the past capstone projects. In the beginning, we created our capstone title, significance of the study, research questions and literary review. If you click here you can see our unfinished capstone powerpoint in which it went through several revisions. For this course it fulfilled MLO 2 and MLO 4 because we learned more in depth of Japanese culture as well as research methods to find information in both English and Japanese. Also, from learning more research methods we learned about using books and articles to find the things that we need for our capstone project. In addition, for the midterm presentation to final presentation we learned how to perfect our powerpoint making skills as well as putting in information in each slide For our midterm we created our first powerpoint for what the actual capstone project is going to be. In addition, we had to create our rough survey questions. If you click here you can see our survey questions in which it went through several changes. From the comments from professors and classmates, our capstone idea went through various changes, then next semester we are continuing on working on our capstone project next semester in WLC 400.
Evidence:
Capstone Powerpoint (Note: This is not our final capstone project.)
This is an example of what we had in the beginning of our capstone with choosing our topics, finding information in your literature review, finding sources and finding a layout for our capstone.
Capstone Survey Questions (Note: This is not our final Capstone Survey Questions.)
This is an example where we had to complete in the beginning. My group and I had a very hard time trying to make our survey questions not look like a test and making it simple as possible. However, from the corrections from our classmates and our professor we made several changes in your surveys and made it concrete survey.
