WLC 400: Senior Capstone
Description: Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors. (Offered spring semester.) (Credit/ No Credit Available)
Reflective Narrative: This course mainly focuses on the continuation of pre-capstone from the fall semester and this course fulfills MLO 4 requirement because of the research and analysis of the class. The main point of this course was to synthesize and finalize our Capstone Research Project for the most part. In this course we learned different types of skills that we had previously learned in pre-capstone and WLC 300 course. We used different things such as Zotero and other things. From the help by our librarian and the Japanese department staff from making our capstone project concise and also on top of that using the skills that we had learned from the classes helped me and my group because when our group had trouble finding sources and our survey questions, it made it easier for us to rephrase and think about it. Some of the skills that I have learned in the class is how to write an specific Japanese writing from looking at our data. An example of that will be my Japanese paper that we had to do in the class. If you click here you can see my Japanese paper. Another thing that I learned in this class is how to do citation for our Japanese powerpoint, we had to citation for each of our literature review and we learned how to do it in the correct format. If you click here you can see our Japanese capstone project and how we did on our citation.
Another part that we did in class, was our e-portfolio. We did our e-portfolio from fall semester to spring semester and in class we continued working on the portfolio until its finished. On top of getting feedback from other classmates with our e-portfolio.
My goal for this classes is to complete my capstone and use different tools that I have learned in the class for my future. Using the skills and tools that I have learned I would want to use it in the business world when I get a job. In this course it helped me improve my presentation skills as wells as speaking abilities in which I thought I had confidence with but it made me realize speaking in presentation and speaking in general was way different. It gave me an confidence and improvement boost of speaking in front of people as well as speaking formally.
